Abstract
Background: Food insecurity and inadequate nutrition remain significant challenges among orphaned children in India, adversely affecting their physical health, emotional well-being, and overall development. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives have increasingly emerged as an important mechanism for supporting community welfare through targeted interventions such as food donation programs. The Shri Shivratan Sha Foundation implemented a CSR-supported food donation initiative at an orphanage in Raxaul, East Champaran, Bihar, with the objective of improving nutritional support while promoting social inclusion and community engagement.
Objective: To assess the impact of the CSR-supported food donation program on the nutritional well-being, emotional satisfaction, and social inclusion of orphaned children residing in an orphanage in Raxaul, East Champaran.
Methods: A descriptive case study design was adopted. Data were collected during the implementation of the food donation program through direct observation, interaction with orphanage staff, informal feedback from beneficiaries, and documentation of program activities. The assessment focused on meal quality, beneficiary participation, perceived satisfaction, volunteer engagement, and the overall social impact of the initiative. Descriptive statistics and qualitative observations were used to evaluate the outcomes.
Results: The program successfully provided nutritious meals to all participating children and received highly positive feedback from both the beneficiaries and orphanage management. Children demonstrated high levels of satisfaction and active participation during the event. The initiative strengthened community involvement by engaging volunteers and donors, fostering empathy, social connectedness, and collective responsibility. The program also enhanced awareness regarding the role of CSR in addressing child nutrition and supporting vulnerable populations.
Conclusion: The CSR-supported food donation program conducted by the Shri Shivratan Sha Foundation made a meaningful contribution to improving the immediate nutritional well-being and social inclusion of orphaned children in Raxaul. The findings suggest that regular CSR-led nutrition initiatives can serve as an effective and sustainable approach to enhancing child welfare while encouraging stronger collaboration between corporate organizations, non-governmental institutions, and local communities. Expanding such initiatives could significantly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals related to Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
